Awards and Accomplishments

To enrich the classroom experience, teach civic responsibility, encourage generosity, and strengthen community ties, Mt. Clemens Montessori Academy students participated in several meaningful community service projects throughout the 2010-2011 school year. There were school-wide projects, classroom initiatives, and Student Council activities that reached out to our community this year.

The Student Council at MTCMA was developed to give students the opportunity to learn responsibility, engage in leadership, show compassion, and develop sensitivity. Students in first through fifth grade are nominated by their peers to represent them. A total of twenty-four (24) students composed the Student Council team this year. This year, Student Council members visited children in the pediatric wing at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center , visited a retirement home, gave holiday gifts to families less fortunate.  A year long project involving all staff and student raised $1400.00 for Multiple Sclerosis patients and research.

At our annual Mt. Clemens Montessori St. Jude ’s Hospital Math-A-Thon, our students raised $2,000.00; totaling over $50,000 since 1996.  Our students also participated in “Jump Rope for Heart” ($1,707.00) and Humane Society ($800.00).  Yearly, we erect a “Mitten Tree” which children/families donate hats, mitten, and scarves for children without such luxuries in our community. Also, in line with the MTCMA community spirit, some individual students and small groups found their own way to make a difference this year. Several classrooms wrote to our soldiers in Iraq and sent parcels along with words of gratitude and encouragement. Student volunteers in the various Scout Troops wrote letters or raised their own funds to donate to various organizations. Just as our community has benefited this year from the kindness and generosity of MTCMA students, families, and staff have also benefited from the kindness and generosity of others this year.

Mt.
